First Presbyterian Welcomes
Rev. Dr. Mike Anderson!

First Presbyterian Church is exited to welcome the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Anderson as our Designated Pastor. Dr. Anderson “Mike”, hails from Jacksonville, Florida originally. He was called to ministry while a student at Samford University in Birmingham, where he attained his B.A. He received his M.Div. and D.Min. from Golden Gate Theological Seminary. He is a certified interim pastor by the Presbyterian Church (USA). He has served churches in Alabama, California, Florida, New York, Ohio, and Mississippi. Mike’s mother grew up in the Cartersville area and he has fond memories of visiting while growing up and through college. In fact, he and Becky Ferguson are searching for family members in common!

Mike and his wife, Monnie, met at Samford and married in 1976. Monnie is from Monroeville, Alabama (the home of Harper Lee, who was her cousin). She has made a hobby of education, seriously. She has a B.A., B.S., D.RE., and M.A.T.S. She received her last degree the same year she RETIRED from active ministry, 2014. She was a church educator and pastor for 45 years. She is enjoying retirement, moving around with Mike, and staying home with their elderly dog, Sidney.

Sidney joined the family as a rescue Sheltie in 2006. He used to walk four to five miles a day with Mike. Now he has arthritis and can’t walk with him, but he is surely bonded to Mike. In fact, Sid spent a year in Ohio with Mike where they regularly walked the beautiful parks throughout the area. Sid was not so keen on the snow, though.

Mike and Monnie have four grandchildren by their two sons and daughters-in-law. We hope you will have an opportunity to meet them at some point during their sojourn at First Presbyterian.

Older son, David, is married to Courtney. They both teach public school in San Antonio, Texas. They have two daughters, Melanyne and Marlo, ten years and five years old. Their family dog is a Boston Terrier.

Younger son, John, is married to Kelly Stone. John is a college professor in theology and ethics. Kelly is the College Chaplain At MacAlester College (one of our Presbyterian Colleges) in St. Paul, Minnesota. They have two sons, Ashley and Jackson, seven years and three years old. Their family dog is a Brittany Spaniel.

Mike and Monnie will be here around the first week of November. They are renting a house in Highland View, off Highway 20.
