Adult Missions

The Mission and Witness committee of First Presbyterian Church works to connect our church family with people in need around the world.  The committee has planned six adult mission trips in recent years.  For the past three years, a team of members from First Presbyterian has gone to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi to do hurricane relief work.  We anticipate continuing to send teams in the future, as the re-building in that area will go on for years to come.

In 2004 and 2003, First Presbyterian sent mission teams to Juarez, Mexico, to work with Presbyterian Border Ministries.  Our church members, Todd and Tricia Reinschmidt, later became missionaries there.

The Mission committee responds to disasters and other special needs, such as leading the church to assemble and send relief kits after natural disasters.

Our church’s annual International Christmas Market is sponsored by this committee the first weekend of each December.  At the market, people in the church and community have the opportunity to purchase beautiful hand-made gifts from around the world, with the proceeds going back to the craftspeople in their native countries.   People can also give a gift in honor of someone through organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Heifer International.

If you would like to be part of the Mission and Witness Committee, or would like to be involved in any of its ministries, please contact Julie Jensen by email or by phone: 770-382-3511.

Older Adult Ministry

First Presbyterian Church has a large, diverse, and vital population of older adults in many stages of life.  Some are still working, some are early retirees, and others have been retired for a number of years.  The Older Adult Ministry Program (also known as Society of the Saints, or S.O.S.) is designed to address spiritual, educational, social and practical needs of older adults in a Christian context.  There are study groups, special programs, fellowship activities, trips, and a monthly luncheon.

The Older Adult Ministry Committee also encourages older adults to use their gifts in the ministries of the church.  If you would like to be involved in the activities for Older Adults, or if you are interested in serving on the Older Adult Ministry Committee, please contact Rev. Julie Jensen in the church office. 770-382-3511.
